Getting Started in Greco-Roman Wicca

So I did a post about getting started in Roman Revivalism so I'm doing one for Greco-Roman Wicca.  Greco-Roman Wicca is just taking the Greco-Roman deities and incorporating them into Wicca. Using the magical days of the weeks, wheel of the year, circle casting, quarter calling, all the stuff that you see in Wicca into your practice. If you choose this path then I would advise that you still read the reliable books, but read some books on Wicca as well. Another thing that I would like to note. The Jargon concept of archtypes is considered proto-science. If your into facts, then don't take this as part of your practice. It's fake science and not something that's reliable. It amazes me at how quickly Wiccans will believe something that's not based on facts but scream for facts. Here's a list of things to do. 1: Gets some books on Roman religion and Wicca books 2: Set up your altar. Note: You don't need a altar to practice Wicca but you need an altar to pr...

Getting Started in Roman Revivalism

So I'm going to use this post to give everyone tips on how to get started in Roman Revivalism. The most important thing to do is to decide if this is something that you wish to practice. While the Romans had strict rules about the order that ritual was to take place, and even that everything had to be word perfect, the way that I practice doesn't involve things being word perfect. I still cover my head, though. So here's some tips on how to get started. 1: Decide if this is something that you wish to practice. 2: Get a couple of books on Roman religion written by credible sources. 3: Set up an altar to the Roman gods. Note: You can get most of the things that you need pretty cheap at your local craft, or second hand, shops. 4: Join a group, if you wish. 5: Buy more books. 6: Become active in your Roman recon community. Note: In America we really don't have a large community, thus we aren't included in the list of religions that the military recognizes so you...

Today is Memorial Day, a time to honor those that gave their lives in service to our country. I decided to burn a black candle to honor them. Have a good one and may your ancestors bless you.

The mausoleum of the Emperor Augustus in Rome to Reopen to the Public

The mausoleum to the Emperor Augustus will be reopen to the public after it went through restoration. Here's the link. http://www.archaeology.org/news/5526-170502-rome-augustus-mausoleum Really excited about this, even though I won't be able to see it. I don't have a passport.

Changes

One of the things that we all have to go through is changes. I'm not talking about simple changes but huge changes. One of the huge changes that is happening is moving. We're moving to another place and so we're going to be moving things from here to there. It's not going to be easy, but one that has to be done. So, in the future, there might be some gaps in when I do posts. But, rest assure, I'm here still. Still honoring the gods and still following my path.

What is Roman Revivalism

Two years ago I found Roman Revivalism, several months after I had joined Cultus Decorum, and I found the group a better fit then Cultus Decorum. So what is Roman Revivalism? Roman Revivalism is the between path going between Reconstructionism and Eclectic Neo-Paganism. We don't do devotional work, because that was something the Romans did do and that was something that wouldn't fit in today's world. How I practice my practice is simple. I bring the gods into the here and now and I don't stick with a clear script. I don't believe that the gods will strike you down if you don't do it the way that it was done in ancient times. We live in the modern world and some of the rituals that was done is way too complicated and wouldn't fit on the time table that I have some times. However I do three basic rituals. One, during the first day of the month, the nones on the seventh day of the month, depending, and the Idus on the 15th of the month. There are some holid...

Advice When Your Too Busy to Practice

Being a Roman pagan I find that the most important thing that the gods want us to do is to be self-sustaining, being able to do things on our own. The one way to do that, unless you win a ton of money, is to work. So that's what I've been doing. Next week I'll be ordering some Roman prayer cards and candle labels to help my practice along. When you have to work, sometimes your too busy to practice. I've found that I can do a small ritual in the morning, before work, but I'm too tired to do anything when I come home. Even though you might be too busy to practice I believe a small 'thank you' to the gods will help. We live in a much different time than our ancestors, and so things are different. I hope that this post helps someone.

Lightning a Candle for Manchester

Yesterday there was a bombing at a concert in Manchester, England. 22, or more, people died and many more were injured. I'm lightning a candle to Mercury, Pluto, and Jupiter. May these gods serve justice and bring the dead peace. Hail to the gods!
